Unpacking the Idea of Home Writing Contest

Do you live in the Sea to Sky Corridor, and want to try your hand at a writing contest?

The Unpacking the Idea of Home Writing Contest is now open for entry to anyone living in the Sea to Sky region between Lions Bay and Lillooet. Writers may submit multiple entries.

  1. Entrants may submit writing in any of the following literary genres – poetry, creative non-fiction, fiction and spoken word.
  2. Writing entries must be a maximum of 250 words or less.
  3. The theme is Unpacking the Idea of Home. We’ve come up with some questions to spark your imagination, and your entry could address any of these ideas: How is our sense of self influenced by where we live, or where we travel? What do we find out about ourselves when we examine our sense of place under the microscope? What does home mean, and do we change if it changes?
  4. Please give your submission a title and use the same name for your submission document. Do not put your name on the entry as they will be blind judged.

One writer will be chosen to read their winning entry at the Travel, Place, Identity: Unpacking the Idea of Home Reading Event, Friday May 17th at 7pm the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre in Whistler. The winner will receive a $100 cash prize and two tickets to the event for guests. The reading event will also feature readings by guest authors Pat Ardley, Amy Fung, Becky Livingston, and Geoff Powter.
